What is Localization in Odoo?

Localizations in Odoo are country-specific modules that address accounting, payroll, and other legal requirements. When installed, Odoo adds customized features to meet these requirements, supplementing the standard features to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations.

Why does Odoo have localizations?

Localizations ensure that the necessary customizations for compliance with a specific country's legal requirements are already in place. This also allows users of the standard version of Odoo to achieve legal compliance without needing custom modifications.

How do I access Odoo localization features?

In order to access Odoo localization features, you ned to go to Accounting > Configuration > Settings > Fiscal Localization, then select the package that belongs to your country.

Usually when you go to fiscal localization, you may get that Odoo has selected a package for you already. This is because of the country that you selected when you were creating the database.

💡

NOTE: You need to select the localization package before doing any accounting operations in the system, otherwise you won't be able to.

The countries in Africa where Odoo has been localized so far are:

Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Chile, Comoros, Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Mali, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia.

💡

There are different types of localizations. For some coutrnies its only the chart of accounts, for some, it's fiscalization of invoices, and payroll compliance as well.

What if there isn't a fiscal localization for my country?

Odoo is continuously updating, and more countries are expected to have localizations in the near future. In the meantime, the default chart of accounts in Odoo adheres to general accounting standards, ensuring compliance. Additionally, Odoo's accounting reports, such as the balance sheet and profit and loss statement, remain fully functional and accurate even without specific localization.
